Crisis Of Capitalism and State Theory:
An Assessment of Bob Jessop’s State Theory

Attila Güney

Marxist state theory. To achieve that objective, the study focuses on the form of
the formulation of the relationship between the economic and the political sphere
in Jessop’s theory. It suggests that what is crucial in Jessop’s study is that the
structuralist problematics can not be overcome and, they remain, as a central
obstacle, at the centre of his theory. For this reason, this relationship between
the economic and the political sphere, in Jessop’s state theory, increasingly
reproduces itsef and, the political sphere is evaluated as having privacy in front
of the economic sphere in analysing the capitalist state
